Description:

An exquisite oil painting by renowned flower artist, Albert John Sherman (1982-1971).  Albert Sherman immigrated to Sydney from the UK in 1922 and became one of Australia's most widely known and collected artists.   Particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, Sherman's works were in high demand.

Sherman's flower paintings combine his formidable technical skill, perfectionism and a genuine love for nature.  He worked from his home studio, personally selecting and arranging his flowers, and always painting from life. His aim was to faithfully capture the truth and beauty of his subject.

Although Sherman's favouite flower was the peony, he often painted bowls of colourful zinnias.  This painting, titled "Display of Zinnias", is a fine example of his work.  The painting is a beautiful and realistic flower piece, it is deliberate and thoughtful but also clearly captures his feeling for the bright, joyful flowers.  The painting is signed on the lower right hand side.  It is newly framed in a modern, champagne colour frame.
